Every Fall and Spring, like clockwork, my husband saw me running around early one morning, putting on make up, doing my hair, and packing the kids’ clothes in a duffle. We were packing up to get our annual photos done (Pro tip: don’t change your kids until you get to the location. Car messes of all kinds are real!)
But instead of looking forward to the sweet images I know we’d receive in just a few weeks, I constantly found myself in a tizzy trying to get everyone ready and out the door, adding to the already overwhelming mental load of motherhood.
I’m a photographer, for goodness sake! Don’t I have all the answers when it comes to making sessions less stressful?
Think about a normal car trip – to school, the grocery store, wherever. When you bring your kids with you, there’s a lot more logistics to think through. Add wardrobe, finding parking, being on time on top of that, it’s bound to add stress.
This is why I LOVE family sessions at home.
The most relaxed family session I’ve ever had was my daughter’s one year milestone session. I literally planned outfits based on what we had in our closets and we spent the morning listening to our favorite vinyls in our living room. It was the perfect depiction of our family and that season of life – lots of giggles and dancing and getting past the tired newborn phase and into all the fun of toddlers.
At the end of the day, that’s exactly what I want for you. I want you to not just enjoy the images we capture together but the whole experience. I want these images to be a true representation of your family, and I’ve seen time and time again how lifestyle sessions at home allow for your family’s natural rhythm to come out.
